About this Experience

Tough Guy claims to be the world's most demanding one-day survival ordeal.

First staged in 1987, the Tough Guy Challenge is held on a 600-acre (2.42 square km) farm in Perton, Staffordshire, near Wolverhampton, England, and is organised by Billy Wilson (using the pseudonym "Mr. Mouse"). It has been widely described as "the toughest race in the world", with up to one-third of the starters failing to finish in a typical year.

  • "Barely" Survived

A truely horrible type of fun. About 10% of the 4500 entrants who showed up were women. Approximately .20% of those were carrying weight through the course. Yeah, that would be me. I honestly don’t know if my time would have been all that much better without the 20lbs on my back. I do know I didn’t and don’t care about my racetime. My goal was simply to finish and I would have never made it through the course without my GoRuck Buddies by my side. I have never been so dirty, so cold and so tired as I was crossing the finish line. Ben, the only one who had survived the challenge before, said the incomprehensible “instruction ... read the full review »

    I genuinely think I've got post-traumatic stress

Wow...I completed my first Tough Guy yesterday and it was tougher than expected but a brilliant experience I completed the course in 2 hours 13 mins 15 seconds, and was positioned 249th out of 3658 that finished, and 5000 that started so top 5% Tough Guy was challenge 1 of 13 I'm doing in 2013 for the Doolist charity challenge to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Danielle had come to support me and we had travelled down to Walsall the night before and aimed to get to Tough Guy (just West of Wolverhampton) at 10, as registration closed at 10:50....I totally should have checked the Tough Guy page's recommen... read the full review »

  • Tough Guy is Awesome

I've done Tough Guy on 14 July 2012 and on 14 October 2012 and both times I found it to be amazing. The permanent assault course is something to behold, absolutely massive, and the farm lands where it takes place are beautiful. When I did the October one, the course was quite a lot different to the previous one, as you do not necessarily do all of the obstacles (there are so many). There was a frost the morning of the October Tough Guy, so the water was quite cold, If you prefer it a bit warmer, it would probably be worth doing the one in July. I've not done the January one, but admire anyone who has, and can only imagine how freezi... read the full review »

  • One Time Experience

This is an unbelievable experience, there is really good camaraderie amongst all the competitors and it's a huge adrenaline rush. But it is really hard, you start with a run and a few small obstacles that are fine, but thats just the warm up for what's to come! The freezing cold water that you have to swim through is so hard. It totally disorientates you, and by the end your feet and legs feel like blocks of ice. I loved every minute of it, but would never do it again! read the full review »
